Volkswagen and Porsche to Build Strong Partnership
The German sports car manufacturers, Porsche and Volkswagen’s working relationship may advance further as reported by the Automobilwoche, a German newspaper, last Saturday.
In the past, the two brands have already cooperated in the development and advance in hybrid technology. Now, Volkswagen and its finest brand Audi were attracted in Porsche’s four-door Panamera model with its lightweight assembly. The innovative model is scheduled to hit market in 2009, as told by Porsche development chief Wolfgang Duerheimer in a paper article to be published on Monday.
In a related story last Saturday by the German paper Wolfsburger Allgemeine Zeitung, Volkswagen targets to manufacture 100,000 more cars this year as compared last year in its main plant in Wolfsburg, Germany,
In an unconfirmed report, Germany’s Spiegel magazine suggested that Porsche’s chairman Wolfgang Porsche may possibly join Volkswagen’s supervisory board when Porsche get a hold of the stock majority in one of Europe’s largest carmaker.
Linde chief executive Wolfgang Reitzle was also cited by the magazine as a candidate to join the board.
If Porsche acquired majority of stakes in VW, they may gain more seats on Volkswagen’s supervisory board. Porsche retaliated that the said article was based on guesswork and declined further comment.
