Fiat 500 – Best Small Car of the Year

The Fiat 500 gained the title for the Best Small Car of the Year in the annual Fifth Gear awards. Giulio Salomone, the Managing Director of the Fiat Group Automobiles UK received the award saying, “We are absolutely delighted with this great honour.”
“Clearly the British public like what they see in our new 500 – already more than 5,000 have expressed an interest in ordering one – and it’s fantastic to see that motoring experts such as those working on Fifth Gear agree,” added Salomone.
The Fiat’s headquarters in UK is located at Slough, Berkshire.
There are only three category awards given in the annual Fifth Gear honors. The latest 500 got one of only three valued category awards. It was admired and commended by the production team and presenters of the show. The Fiat model’s handling, style, performance and even build quality were praised.
The new 500 was also honored and given special mention for achieving a five star rating for crash safety in the recent Euro NCAP. This made the 500 the safest cars offered in Europe nowadays along with other qualified vehicles.
According to James Woodroffe , Producer of Fifth Gear, “The Best Small Car is arguably the most important award Fifth Gear gives out as more small cars are sold in the UK than any other sector. Consumers want a supermini that doesn’t feel like it’s built to a budget, but is styled with flair, and comes with the maximum five star Euro NCAP safety rating. The Fiat 500 fits the bill better than anything else we’ve driven this year and was a unanimous choice.”
Fiat 500 is already available in major lands of European countries like Italy, Germany, France and Spain. In the UK, the model will be launched early next year. The vehicle is also offered in three engines, all created to meet the strict and latest regulations for exhaust emissions. It also comes in either five-speed or six-speed gearbox. The 500 ensures an outstanding fuel economy and tough performance. In 2008, a five-speed gearbox will be offered for petrol engines. The range for the engine is from 69 bhp 1.2 to 100 bhp 1.4 petrol units.
